Mission

The Friends seek to protect the Preserve's unique natural characteristics and cultural history, as well as to make responsible improvements to the land for the enjoyment of the adjoining communities.

FOFPP History

In 2019, Friends of Forwood Preserve, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit was incorporated in the State of Delaware. We generally go by “Friends of Forwood Preserve Park” in external communications (FOFPP).

Community Improvement Grant from State of Delaware
In 2022, FOFPP applied for and was awarded a Delaware Community Reinvestment Fund grant for the restoration of the Park to a condition appropriate for the surrounding neighborhoods to use and enjoy.

Park Restoration Planning Study
In 2023, the New Castle Conservation District (DNREC) and FOFPP jointly funded a planning study to document the existing condition of the Park on how best to restore it. ForeSite Associates, an engineering and environmental consulting firm, conducted the study. The final 72-page in-depth assessment and planning study was published July 2024.

A Neighborhood Park

Forwood Preserve Park, a New Castle County neighborhood park, is surrounded by developments whose residents will benefit from the restoration of these 16 acres to an enjoyable place to stroll and enjoy nature.
